How the daily food estimate works
The calculator converts weight to kilograms, estimates resting energy needs and applies a visible life-stage or goal multiplier. It divides that daily calorie starting point by the current food’s kcal-per-cup value.
- Use the kcal value from the current package
- Treat cups as a measured starting amount
- Split the total into an appropriate meal routine
How to adjust the starting amount
Record the measured portion, body weight and hands-on body condition. Review the trend after two to four weeks, then make a small adjustment instead of changing the food and portion at the same time.
When a standard multiplier is not enough
Growth, pregnancy, intense work, illness and prescribed weight plans need individualized targets. Ask a veterinary professional when weight changes rapidly, appetite shifts or a medical condition affects feeding.
